Want clarity in your life but don’t know how? Want to lose weight but don’t have time? Join me for 30 days and you will.
STEP ONE – Pick a number between 1 and 10
STEP TWO- Make a BIG sign with your number on it and post it in a conspicuous place where you will see it often!
STEP THREE – Create an intention around the issues where you want clarity. For example: “I have clarity in my work life.” Using this time to lose weight? Set your intention around being healthy NOT how many pounds you want to lose. Whatever you are doing, make sure the words you use sound and feel good to YOU.
STEP FOUR* – Before breakfast EACH day! Grab a box and put that number of objects in it. The items can be large or small but don’t eat breakfast until you have done the work. No breakfast for you? Choose some other daily event, such as before you read your e-mail, take a shower, or whatever.
“But Diane, mornings are too busy for me, what do I do then”? Anytime is really fine, the most important thing is that you DO it. You decide to remove your number of items before you go to bed? Sure, fine, BUT that means…when you are cozy in bed, almost asleep and you remember you didn’t remove your number? You MUST get up and take action – no excuses!
**STEP FOUR and a half – Repeat your intention (or reflect on the topic) as you remove the items every day.
STEP FIVE – In doing this process you will gather quite a number of “things” so make a plan for their ultimate removal from your home. I HIGHLY recommend that you remove these items at least three times in the month.
Here is a GOOD PLAN: By __________(choose a date) this box of stuff will be donated to _______ given to ________ or removed from my life. Write that plan, place it next to your number and DO IT!
This is NOT a good plan: I will put this box in the trunk of my car and the next time I drive by __________I will drop it off. Know why this is not a good plan? Because you may already HAVE the box of stuff from the LAST time you attempted something similar. Deadlines people – they really work!
STEP SIX – Pay attention to anything that comes to you while you are doing this work and ACT on it! For example, you are clearing and you have the thought that you should call someone – DO IT! It crosses your mind “I’d like to take a painting class” – SIGN UP! A solution to a problem surfaces? – MAKE IT HAPPEN! You get the idea.
If you have a mess rather than a lot of stuff, you can use the same technique. Pick up and put away (where they really belong) your number of objects each day.
Know why this technique is so effective? You are more focused on the counting than on the objects so you are not as inclined to get emotionally involved in the process. Tricky, tricky, but cool! It is also a small number so is not so overwhelming.
2 items x 30 days = 60 items
4 items x 30 days = 120 items
7 items x 30 days = 210 items
10 items x 30 days = 300 items!
Can you imagine how you will feel when so many things are either gone or in the correct place?
