Spending a few moments connecting with Mothers and the Motherhood energy of this day, I came across a poem I wrote years ago.
The poem speaks of accepting and moving at one’s own pace. I encourage you to find the truth in your own story.
Truth and Reconciliation
I am my mother’s daughter
No matter how I twist and squirm
She is in my bones
my marrow
I don’t want to look,
but am drawn again and again
to recognize my ancestry and
accept my fate.
I live life my way and
choose to accept
the threads that bind me to an elusive past but
step into my own light.
Walking away from her shadow
I feel a cool breeze
Blowing through my newly strengthened bones
She is in me, but not me
I am from her, but not her
I hear footsteps fading in the distance
As I finally take my place
in this lineage of women.
